Behavior was the training need most identified by Idaho Special Education Directors in the January 2019 Directors Survey. School teams also stated they wanted advanced training related to addressing challenging behavior in schools. Idaho SESTA Advanced Learner Behavior Institute will offer selected applicants an opportunity to build local capacity for schools and districts. This course is a yearlong institute experience beginning with a two-day face to face launch on 8/14/19-8/15/19, in Boise and culminating with a face to face final event on 5/14/2020 in Boise. Individuals will also participate in 8 monthly 1-hour webinars and mentorship to develop fluency and practice related to behavioral coaching and competencies. Individuals will complete an online personal journal for reflection and school-based application of topics included in monthly webinars. Texts and readings will be provided. Participants can expect to deepen their knowledge on: 1) Assessing challenging behavior as it relates to the school environment; 2) Implementing effective behavior intervention planning; 3) gain an understanding of behavioral science and its application within school-based systems of support and 4) increase understanding of teaming and coaching skills. This is blended course using the Idaho Training Clearinghouse Learning Management System (LMS) at the Center on Disabilities and Human Development at the University of Idaho.
