The ePotato is a multidisciplinary program for grades 3–6 that helps to increase agriculture literacy among youth, many of whom are unfamiliar with how and where food is grown. Students will learn how the most-recognized commodity in Idaho is grown, the history and geography of different varieties, why Idaho is well suited for growing potatoes, the tuber’s nutritional components and health benefits, how to prepare healthy and tasty meals healthy meals using them, and more.
The robust multidisciplinary and multimedia curriculum requires students to use math and other critical-thinking skills that comply with youth education standards for science, technology, engineering, math, nutrition, health, history, geography, and agriculture. In addition to improving ag literacy, it offers lessons about the nutritional properties of potatoes and how to prepare healthy and tasty recipes using them.
