Bigtooth maple is native to parts of Idaho. It is closely related to sugar maple. This species can grow to be 50' tall. The leaves turn shades of yellow and red in the fall. Thriving in a variety of well-drained soils, bigtooth maple prefers sheltered canyons, valleys, stream banks and primarily higher elevations. This species is drought tolerant and can grow in rocky landscapes. The sap from this species can be used to make maple syrup.
