Coyote willow is an Idaho native shrub that is probably found in every county in the state. It typically grows to 15' at amaturity and spreads by underground roots, forming willow thickets. It grows in moist sands and gravel and requires a minimum of 20-25" of annual precipitation if not on a perennial stream. This willow is used in conservation plantings for streambank stablilization, riparian site restoration and wildlife browse and habitat.
