Fraser Fir is native to the Appalachian Mountains and is a beautiful, fast-growing tree with shiny, dark-green needles. It grows with a narrow, spire-like form with stiff branches and has a rich "pine tree" fragrance, making it a popular species for Christmas trees. The undersides of the needles are silvery, making the tree appear to shimmer. It prefers well-drained soils but it has been hown to adapt well to the clay soils found in the Palouse region of Idaho.
