Also called Oval-Leaved Blueberry or Early Blueberry, Oval-Leaf Huckleberry is found throughout the west in the northern latitudes, including Canada. Preferring moist soils, it grows in the understory and will become shorter and broom-like with higher elevations. Typically ripening in August, these huckleberries are blue to black in color and are culturally prized as a food source. Pollinators and wildlife are also attracted to the flowers and berries. The tall delicate branching and vibrant green foliage makes a great addition to a landscape given the proper planting site.
